Lonesome Dove
Skeptical is the only word that accurately describes my original feelings about reading Larry McMurtry’s 1985 book, Lonesome Dove. Sure, it won the Pulitzer. Sure, it has a perfect 5-star rating on Amazon. Sure, it’s one of the “best westerns ever written.” But, does that really matter? It’s a western—not to mention 800 pages.
